Rapseed Meal

Rapeseed Meal is the by-product obtained after the oil is extracted from rapeseeds (Brassica napus or Brassica campestris) through mechanical or solvent extraction methods. It is one of the most widely used protein-rich animal feed ingredients across the globe.

With a typical crude protein content ranging from 36% to 40%, rapeseed meal is valued for its well-balanced amino acid profile—particularly rich in methionine and cysteine—making it a suitable supplement for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture feed.

In addition to its protein content, Rapeseed Meal also contains significant levels of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and B-complex vitamins. While traditional rapeseed meal had limitations due to the presence of glucosinolates (anti-nutritional factors), modern low-glucosinolate varieties (canola meal) are widely used and better tolerated by animals. It serves as a cost-effective alternative to soybean meal and is often incorporated into feed formulations to reduce overall costs while maintaining nutritional value.

Key Properties

High Protein Content : Contains 36–40% crude protein, ideal for animal nutrition.

Rich in Essential Amino Acids : Particularly high in methionine and cysteine, crucial for growth and metabolism.

Cost-Effective : A more affordable alternative to soybean meal without compromising nutritional value.

Low-Glucosinolate (Canola) Varieties Available : Improved digestibility and safety for monogastric animals like pigs and poultry.

Versatile Use : Suitable for cattle, poultry, swine, aquaculture, goats, and sheep.

Rich in Minerals : Provides calcium, phosphorus, and B-complex vitamins.

Applications

Cattle Feed : Enhances milk production and weight gain

Poultry Feed : Used as a partial soybean meal replacement in broilers and layers

Pig Feed : Supports lean growth and reduces feed cost

Aqua Feed : Plant-based protein alternative for fish and shrimp

Sheep & Goat Feed : Complements roughage-based diets
